National Geographic Television International and Brando Quilici Productions today announce a number of recent deals for the Pope biopic JOHN PAUL II: GOD'S POLITICIAN (1 x 52 mins). They include sales to Germany, Discovery in the UK and Asia, France 3, ABC in Australia, Rai in Italy, Estonian Television, TVP in Poland, Danmarks Radio and Historia in Canada.
This 2004 programme offers an intimate portrayal of John Paul II through rare archival film, original footage and a remarkable series of interviews with those who have interacted with him on the highest level, including world leaders such as Mikhail Gorbachev, Lech Walesa and George Bush Snr. By highlighting a handful of key historic episodes - turning points in crises around the world - this documentary shows how the Pope's actions influenced, and in some case altered, the direction of modern history.
Brando Quilici Productions is also filming in Rome this week, in order that footage of the Pope's funeral can be included in the programme.
Anna Fuge, head of sales at NGTI comments: "This programme, which shows us another side of the Pope's life, as well as the internal workings of the Vatican, demonstrates what a remarkable man he really was and precisely what sort of influence he had in world politics over his 26 year tenure as head of the Catholic church."
NGTI has also seen renewed interest in another topical documentary, INSIDE THE VATICAN (1 X 52 mins). Produced by National Geographic Television & Film, this Special will have deals concluded this week in Singapore and with TVP in Poland and HRT in Croatia.
