TOPICAL PROGRAMMES MADE THEIR MARK AT MIPTV FOR NGTI

NGTI (National Geographic Television International) is pleased to announce a number of deals for new programming that it launched at MipTV.

From the topical current affairs slate THE NEW MAFIA – a 1 x 52 NGT&F show about MS-13, the world’s most dangerous gang – has been licensed to M6 in France, Five in the UK, SRC in Canada, ATV Kong Hong, SBS in the Netherlands, TV2 in Denmark, Skai in Greece and VRT in Belgium

REIGN OF TERROR, a 3 x 52 series produced by ITN Factual for NGCI has been licensed to Canal D in Canada, TV2 in Denmark, Skai in Greece, O3 in Dubai and STB in the Ukraine.   Reign of Terror looks at a range of issues to do with modern day terrorism – from the power of the media in spreading terrorist messages, through to the recruitment of suicide bombers.  The recent Madrid and London bombings are also investigated in some detail.      

MIGHTY MOVERS, a 3 x 52 series about some of the largest machinery on earth has been licensed to Kabel 1 in Germany and ZTV in Canada.  This series was also produced by National Geographic Television & Film.

In the natural history genre, TVB in Hong Kong, Skai in Greece, Lativi in Indonesia and TVP in Poland have acquired DANGEROUS COMPANIONS – a 1 x 52 show produced by South Africa’s Peartree Films.  This programme follows the extraordinary relationship between zoologist Kevin Richardson and the lions and hyenas that he looks after. 


From the new history slate, NGT&F’s TALES FROM THE TOMB: MYSTERY MUMMY (1 x 52) has been licensed to France 5, Prima TV in the Czech Republic and ATV in Hong Kong, while PYRAMIDS OF DEATH, investigating amazing new discoveries in ancient pyramids in central America, has been licensed by ABC in Australia, NHK in Japan and ZDF in Germany. NGT&F’s quirky science series IS IT REAL? (6 x 52) returned for a second series at MipTV and was licensed to Rai in Italy, STB in the Ukraine, RTB in Belgium, A9 in South Korea and Mediacorp in Singapore. ARTV in Canada and Danmarks Radio have also acquired a single Is It Real? episode on The Da Vinci Code. Finally, NGTI has licensed Darlow Smithson’s LOCH NESS: THE ULTIMATE EXPERIMENT (1 x 52) to NHK in Japan, Rai in Italy, STB in the Ukraine and Skai in Greece. Anna Fuge, head of sales at NGTI comments: “MipTV 2006 was very successful for NGTI. Our new landmark event show THE LOST GOSPEL OF JUDAS became a real talking point when it was announced at the market and we are still finalising a number of new deals, in addition to those we announced in Cannes. “Our diversifying slate has also opened up a number of new opportunities for us, with broadcasters delighted to see the National Geographic stamp of approval on more hard-hitting documentaries such as The New Mafia.“
