NGTI GEARS UP FOR DISCOP WITH NEW PROGRAMME LAUNCHES

Published: 4 June 2007

NGTI (National Geographic Television International) is pleased to announce that it will be launching a number of new programmes when it arrives at DISCOP later in the month.

UNDERCOVER IN NORTH KOREA (1 X 52) is an extraordinary programme that provides a rarely seen glimpse into this fascinating country and sheds some light on the excesses of Kim Jong II and the restricted life of his devoted citizens.  The NGT crew went undercover with a medical team on a mission to perform cataract operations and as a result were able to capture amazing footage of North Koreans going about their daily lives, and get a sense of what life is like in this austere state, cut off from the rest of the world.

Two new science shows are expected to be popular at DISCOP – THE SCIENCE OF BABIES (1 X 52) and THE SCIENCE OF DOGS (1 X 52).  The Science of Babies is a stunning new Special that explores the amazing biomechanical benchmarks in the first twelve months of a human's life on earth - from first breath to first step.

The Science of Dogs explores how and why the basic domestic dog has become our most sophisticated, animal partner-in-survival.  The programme takes an in-depth scientific look at their beyond-human powers of smell, hearing and speed - and explores how humans have taken the extra-human abilities of ‘canis familiaris’ and altered them to fit our needs.

Other new programmes launching at the market include wildlife titles CROCODILES:  UNDER THE SKIN (1 X 52) and JELLYFISH INVASION (1 X 52).  Crocodiles: Under the Skin investigates the mechanics and biology of this survivor from prehistoric times, while Jellyfish Invasion asks to what extent man’s activities are causing the massive increases in jellyfish at certain points around the globe.

There are also two new series coming to DISCOP: INTO THE WILDERNESS (3 X 52) and IS IT REAL? 3 (13 x 52).  Into the Wilderness visits some of the most stunning wildernesses in North America, while Is It Real? returns for a third series of investigations into myths, legends and the paranormal.  Subjects in this new series include the lost city of Atlantis, the Bermuda Triangle, Feral Children and the Shroud of Turin.

In addition, NGTI will also be promoting a range of shows launched in the past couple of months, including history shows: NEFERTITI AND THE LOST DYNASTY (1 X 52) and HISTORY’S SECRETS (6 X 52), science programmes HUMAN VOLTAGE: STRUCK BY LIGHTNING (1 X 52) and DOOMSDAY VOLCANO, wildlife title HYENA QUEEN (1 X 52) and the society/current affairs title SLAVE GIRLS OF INDIA (1 x 52).

Roz Parker, the NGTI sales manager responsible for Eastern Europe comments: “Our business has grown dramatically in Eastern Europe over the past few years with many broadcasters acquiring large volume packages, reassured by the NGTI brand.  For example, in recent months we have concluded major deals with Channel 5 St Petersburg, RTV Slovenia, Ceska Televise in the Czech Republic and B92 Serbia.  As the breadth of programming we represent expands, we are developing relationships with a broader range of buyers in the territory and I am looking forward to consolidating these relationships at DICSOP this year.”
