Published: 25 April 2005

National Geographic Television International can today confirm that it has concluded deals for more than 200 hours of programming to Eastern European broadcasters, following MipTV.

Channel One Russia has licensed a number of new programmes launched at the market, including THE MONKEY HUNTERS (1 X 52), THE TRUE FACE OF HURRICANES (1 X 52) and TINY HUMANS: FINDING HOBBITS IN FLORES (1 X 52).

STB in the Ukraine has acquired a package that includes SPIDERS: DEADLY LOVE (1 X 52), PREDATORS AT WAR (2 X 52), event special KING TUT’S CURSE (1 x 90 or 1 x 52) and GUNS, GERMS AND STEEL (3 X 52).

DIGITALB and Top Channel in Albania has also acquired a sizeable package, which includes a raft of programming from both the National Geographic Television & Film and Docstar catalogues.  NGT&F titles include DYING TO KILL; FEMALE SUICIDE BOMBERS (1 X 52), CHINA’S LOST GIRLS (1 X 52) and TSUNAMI: KILLER WAVE (1 x 52).

Ceska Televize from the Czech Republic has licensed a package that also includes TINY HUMANS; FINDING HOBBITS IN FLORES, plus SHARK SONICS (1 X 52) and THE MAN WHO FOUND THE TITANIC (1 X 52).

Finally, B92 in Serbia has agreed to renew its output deal.  The deal, for 52 hours a year, will include programmes from all genres, including wildlife, history and society.

Roz Parker, sales executive responsible for Eastern Europe comments: “The National Geographic brand is very strong in much of Eastern Europe and as in other parts of the world, acts as a quality hallmark for factual programmes.  As we have expanded our catalogue to embrace more science, history and cultural programmes - in addition to the expected  natural history - we have seen interest grown, with many more broadcasters now keen to take volume packages from NGTI.  Demand for our new event titles such as Tiny Humans: Finding Hobbits in Flores and King Tut’s Curse is high, but we are also pleased that many classic titles from our catalogues are also being licensed at this time.”
