France 5 and Channel 4 join with NGTI for King Tut's Curse

Published: 22 February 2005

National Geographic Television International announces today that both France 5 and Channel 4 in the UK are onboard as co-production partners for its major new event special, KING TUT'S CURSE.

With major new revelations about Egypt's most famous mummy, brought about from its first ever CT scan, this 1 x 90 minute special is expected to be a headline grabber and ratings winner.

National Geographic Television & Film, working with Brando Quilici Productions, teamed explorers, scientists and Egyptologists for the most high-tech analysis of King Tutankhamen since his tomb was discovered.  They have been seeking to find out if there is some element of truth to the legendary curse - that has supposedly linked the deaths of many men associated with King Tut and the discovery of his tomb - and to establish precisely how he died.

In the process, the famous mummy was removed from its tomb for the first time and underwent a CT scan, which shows King Tut internally and externally.  Wire frame computer animation is used to reconstruct a 3D version of his face and we have a clear view of just how he looked.

Edwina Thring, head of programmes at NGTI comments: "King Tut's Curse takes an existing story and uses new science to give us completely new information about one of the most enduring mysteries of all time.  This is set to be a stunning show with major revelations and we are delighted to have France 5 and Channel 4 involved."
